From Stone to Color: Making Pigment from Place (Dubuque) ⏐ A three day workshop for Youth and Adults, 14 +.
This two-day workshop introduces students to the origins of pigment by transforming locally collected stone into usable watercolor paint. Participants will explore geology, material history, and collaborative artmaking while creating pigment sourced directly from downtown Dubuque. Students will take home watercolor they made. The workshop culminates in a collaborative striation collage made from hand-painted papers using place-based color.

Inspired by Nature. Powered by Imagination: Youth Art Rendezvous ⏐ A five day workshop for Youth entering or currently in Middle School.
Spend a week creating fun, imaginative art inspired by nature. Campers will experiment with a wide range of materials, learn new techniques, and share ideas as they develop their own creative voices. Along the way, campers will build confidence, connect with others, and enjoy the simple joy of creating together.

Make Your Mark With Nature

Outdoor sketching and art workshop with Project Art for Nature ⏐ Dubuque County Conservation
Make Your Mark With Nature In this outdoor sketching/art workshop, choose from two options for gathering clues from plants or animals, and exploring their relationships with each other, us, and their surroundings: 1) Delve into plant secrets by sketching with traditional materials and techniques; or 2) Arrange gathered natural materials (twigs, leaves, stones) in 2- or 3-dimensional patterns, guided by their characteristics and your intuition. Intrigued? Try both!
Project Art for Nature (PAN) artists Vera Ming Wong, Christine Olson and Bonnie Ploger will guide these practices, in the Mines of Spain conservation area around E.B. Lyons Interpretive Center. Open to all experience levels, whether you’ve never made art or are an experienced artist. Ages 13 and older. Workshop is free – registration encouraged but not required.

Clothing Swap and Thrift Flip Workshop

Leave some skirts, take a top! Before you buy your weekly veggies at the farmers market stop by our clothing exchange booth. Bring clothing and accessories that no longer spark joy and pick out a few new things just in time for the summer season. Make and personalize a no-sew t-shirt bag to carry home your new pieces, and chat with sustainability lovers about fast fashion, its harmful impacts on us and the environment and how you can make small changes to avoid it. All items donated will be given away or used during the afternoon Upcycling event, so make sure they are clean and ready for someone else!
1 – 3 PM ⏐ Thrift Flip Workshop ⏐ Dubuque Museum of Art
Designing unique one-of-a-kind clothing isn’t just for the runway! Spend an afternoon exploring a variety of basic techniques for customizing your clothing to fit better, reflect your personality and keep items out of the landfill. No need for any prior experience, our group of creative, fashion-forward folks have lots of knowledge in thrifting, sewing, mending and upcycling. They will show you ways to cut, embellish and sew clothing to take a piece from trendy to iconic. Bring some of your own pieces to use or share or choose something from our clothing swap!
This event is being hosted by Ali Levassuer, Angela Ventris, Ava Ironside, Erica Wilson and Lizzie Sulla. This group of creative, fashion-forward folks have a shared love of sustainability. They are excited to help you find new ways to reduce your impact on the environment while developing your own personal style.
