Artist Bio: Peter Flanary was born in Milwaukee in 1956 and grew up living in Montana, Minnesota and Wisconsin. After studying furniture design and sculpture at Northern Michigan University, he earned a MFA from the University of Wisconsin in 1988. He established a studio in Madison in 1980 and has maintained an active studio practice ever since. He is currently living and working in the rural Mineral Point, Wisconsin area.
His sculptures, many created for public spaces across the US, explore how form can both relate to and transform the environment. He has enjoyed over 30 years teaching at various universities, and has widely exhibited artwork, including at museums like the Milwaukee Art Museum and the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art.
