
About the Work: The sculpture will be an ice casting of either regional terrain data published by USGS and NASA or procedurally generated terrain produced via erosion simulation. The water used in the ice sculpture will be collected rainwater.The sculpture will be exhibited over a two week period in a chest freezer and moved outside during Dubuque Rendezvous! on Saturday June 27.
About the Artists: Derek Kiesling and Kara Edelstein are life partners applying as an artist duo. Derek is an arts technician and occasionally teaches at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He enjoys creating works that utilize more traditional sculptural techniques like woodworking, metalworking, and casting as well as more contemporary techniques like animation, robotics, sound/music, CNC machining, and programming. Kara was a jeweler for 7 years before choosing to pursue a career as an author. She enjoys and creates work that has an emphasis on intricate detail and colorful patterns. Her most recent works have been in textiles.
