Envision 2030 Captivating Shorelines Projects
Dianne and Kevin Koch
June 27 | Dubuque Farmers’ Market | 9 – Noon
Presentation Summary: Drawn to the Mississippi River? Envision 2030’s Captivating Shorelines group is developing plans to improve Maus Park, Volunteer Drive, the 16th Street Floodwall and the Shot Tower areas along the Mississippi. We will be sharing ideas that have been presented but are also looking for input on future projects ideas to create a vibrant, natural riverfront.
Bios: Dianne and Kevin Koch have long been outdoor enthusiasts. As volunteer leaders of the Envision 2030 Captivating Shorelines committee, they have spent many hours reviewing the ways to make Dubuque, the Masterpiece on the Mississippi, even better. The Captivating Shorelines committee wants to balance the needs of the natural world with amenities that will get citizens outdoors, ask questions, and discover and appreciate the beauty of the tristate area. A retired English teacher from Dubuque Senior High School, Dianne loves to read, play music, and bike, hike, kayak, and cross-country ski the Driftless Area. Kevin, a retired Loras College English professor emeritus, has written several literary nonfiction books, including Skiing at Midnight: A Nature Journal of Dubuque County, The Driftless Land: Spirit of Place in the Upper Mississippi Valley; The Thin Places: A Celtic Landscape from Ireland to the Driftless; and Midwest Bedrock: The Search for Nature’s Soul in America’s Heartland.
